This study investigates how universities can adapt their Information Systems (IS) curricula to align with evolving industry demands and the diverse expectations of incoming students. Specifically, it examines the subject preferences of new students at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo's IS program from 2022 to 2024, focusing on trends among three distinct educational backgrounds: high schools (SMA), vocational schools (SMK), and Islamic schools (MA). To achieve this, the research employs a mixed-methods approach combining time-series and comparative analyses. Data were collected through surveys administered during student orientation, with subsequent analysis conducted using descriptive statistics and Python tools to identify trends in subject preferences over the specified period. The findings reveal a consistent and high interest in Programming across all educational backgrounds, underscoring its foundational importance in IS education. Furthermore, Application Development has garnered significant interest, particularly among SMK students, reflecting their practical, career-oriented focus. In contrast, the study notes a decline in interest in Analysis and Multimedia subjects, pointing to a broader shift towards practical technical skills in the curriculum. Overall, these insights suggest that universities should prioritize the integration of programming and application development into their curricula while enhancing the foundational knowledge in AI and data analytics. By doing so, they can better equip students to meet industry demands and foster a more relevant and engaging educational experience. © 2024 IEEE.
