The North Leato and South Leato areas are parts of Dumbo Raya District, Gorontalo City. The very complex geological condition of the research area makes this research interesting, especially related to the mitigation of geological natural disasters. This study aims to analyse the properties and characteristics of the rocks at the research site and its impacts on landslides' potential in the North Leato and South Leato areas. The research objectives are achieved by using two analytical methods, namely field surveys and petrographic analysis. Based on the results and discussion, it is shown that the rock that composes the research area is granite. The quality of granite is very good because it is very resistant to weathering. The steep slope of 60-80° and the presence of extensive joints in the rock are the primary causes of soil movement hazard in the study area. The type of ground motion that occurs in the research area is rock fall. Disaster mitigation measures must be implemented by reducing the steepness of the slopes of steep hills. © 2023 Author(s).
