Tanjung Kramat in Gorontalo, Indonesia is a village fostered by the department of Architecture, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The village is home to around two hundred families whose majority job is fishing. The people suffer from the uncomfortable condition of tropical coastal environment due to the high air temperature, humidity, and wind speed. Not to mention people in Gorontalo prefer to cover their upper structure using metal zincalume roof since they are more affordable. The highly thermal conductivity roof accounts for excessive heat gain to the house. Through a CSR program by Becool, the villagers received Cool Roof Coating to reduce heating and mitigate global warming. Before and after painting measurements of roof surface temperatures, radiant temperatures, and ground air temperatures are conducted. After the application of the coating, the analysis shows a positive result as the roof surface temperature is reduced by about 20ºC, followed by an improvement in ground air temperature by an average of 0.8ºC. The cool roof coating has succeeded in improving the neighborhood of Tanjung Kramat village. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
